Silhouettes have been all the rage, lately, which is interesting to me. I have a silhouette that my parents got at Disney World in Florida when I was five (I think). I always considered it kind of old-fashioned, but I love what people are doing with them.
When I saw Afton’s post that led to this tutorial, I knew I wanted to do something with them, but just not sure what.
Then, there was a big empty space over my newly slip-covered sofa.
“Lightbulb!”
Malerie turned my profile shots into silhouettes using imaging software. She did a great job. I love them. I don’t know why I was expecting anything different, but they look just like them.
Yes, Caleb is facing a different way on purpose. It’s just like him to try so hard not to be like his sisters.
I couldn’t imagine giant silhouettes above the sofa, but I needed to fill in some space and bring in some color, so the ideas started flowing. I found this oval frame for the silhouettes, and this frame that I loved. So, I put up a mock display to make sure I liked what I saw.
Then, I traced my pattern onto wood. I used birch plywood because it was easy to cut and easy to fit in my car.
I borrowed dad’s small jig-saw and cut it out. Easy.
I spray-painted the whimsical wood frame with Krylon Cherry Red gloss and the oval frame with Krylon Dover White gloss.
Just what I needed to add some color to my neutral room.
I love red, and I love how the silhouettes turned out.
The silhouettes are printed on canvas, textured scrapbook paper.
I love how everything is coming together.
This turned out super cute Cassi! It all looks so good! Finally having a chance to browse your blog and love it! :)
